"To crusade for justice,

To seek the truth and defend it always."

Diversity and Inclusion Chair

Gianna Horan

Now, more than ever, we need to come together to address the systemic marginalization within the Greek community. As a Delta Zeta, we hold each other accountable and do not stand for injustice or discrimination of any kind. With the current events happening in our world, we decided that enough is enough and being a silent supporter isn’t sufficient anymore. It’s time for serious action. The Greek community has a history of oppression that we wish to uproot from its core. While major changes will take time to be set into place, we are willing to take all the sacrifices possible to work towards a better future. We decided to create a new position in the chapter called the Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging chair. With this role that I have been selected to hold, I vow that I will not only educate my chapter, but also take on the Panhellenic community as a whole and reevaluate certain policies in order to make a shift in the system. Actions speak louder than words and while I can write anything here to try and make you understand how passionate I am about this position, I realize that only my actions will truly show my intentions. I am proud to be a part of my chapter and feel very supported taking on this role, looking forward to all that we can achieve in this upcoming year.

In times like this, the Gamma Omicron chapter of Delta Zeta will not stand silent. It is our responsibility to take action. Get involved and become informed. We condemn any and all acts of racism, intolerance, bigotry, hatred, and violence as they have made their way into the Black community. We stand with our black community far and near. Our hearts go out to George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and the countless individuals who have lost their lives to these injustices. Social Greek life has historically benefited from privileged, unjust systems and we recognize our position, privilege, and social responsibility to advocate for the oppressed. We must educate ourselves and others and cannot remain neutral. Text “FLOYD” to 55156 for a link to sign a petition for the arrest of the officers involved in George Floyd’s murder, as well as “ENOUGH” to 55156 for Breonna Taylor. Donate to organizations such as North Star Health Collective, Black Visions Collective, and Louisville Bail Fund. We hear you. We support you. We mourn for you. Black Lives Matter.

Delta Zeta Gamma Omicron stands with the LGBTQIA+ Community. As individuals first, and a chapter as a whole we are committed to remaining educated and spreading love and acceptance to all human beings regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity and all forms of diversity. Although Pride Month may be celebrated in June, we as allies and members of the community work to protect, recognize and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ Community year round!

In light of recent events as well as in our time of fighting against social injustices, it is important to include the wrongfulness of antisemitism in the conversation. It is still alive and is still a problem in today's world. Awareness is a start, and we must acknowledge its hurt and hatred. The Gamma Omicron chapter of Delta Zeta stands with all members of the Jewish community always.
